March 12, 2021Exploring for New Understanding is a Joy of Life

I was named the CEO of Sensmet at the beginning of 2021. As the year is coming to an end it’s a good time to look back at how we have moved forward. So let the numbers tell what has happened at Sensmet in the year 2021.
1
We made a great step forward in the performance of the µDOES® Multi-metal Water Analyser. In ultrapure water applications, we moved from mg/L (part-per-million) sensitivity in real-time metals detection to better than 1 µg/L (part-per-billion) limit of detection. Based on my experience in R&D of analytical instrumentation, it’s rare to see a performance improvement by a factor of 1000. I am very proud of the Sensmet team, who made the progress possible.
1.5
In June 2021 Sensmet raised €1.5M to accelerate international market entry and sales. The second funding round in Sensmet’s history was led by venture capital fund Nordic Option. Innovestor participated with a follow-on investment with new private investors also joining the round. The company and its board of directors got nicely strengthened with the hands-on, long-term entrepreneurial expertise provided by the investors.

Sensmet’s first patent on the Micro-discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy – µDOES® was granted in three continents: the EU, USA and China. Getting the first patent is a great company achievement, and we will stay active in protecting the expanding IP on cutting-edge water analytics. Patenting has been a big learning curve for us. I am glad that we have found a very skilled IP office partner for IP protection.
5
Aappo, Anette, Harri, Juho and Sari – the five professionals that joined the Sensmet team in 2021. It has been fruitful to lead a growing start-up company and to see the power of working together for a common goal of a more sustainable and resource-efficient water environment. I am looking forward to thriving company culture to contribute to the grand global challenge of sustainable water use that we are facing.
6
We have identified six professional international distributors with whom we have started to establish a global presence for the Sensmet products. The first is ABSC Srl who was appointed exclusive distributor in Italy for the sales, distribution, installation, and after-sales service of Sensmet’s full range of µDOES® online process water analyser and sampling products.
24/7
Sensmet water analysers operate 24/7/365 to add value to our customers in the process industry and environmental measurements. Reliable and robust analyser operation in the field is key to us wherefore, we are continuously improving the self-diagnostics and customer service so that the end-users can have peace of mind that their water processes are well under control.
Right after the holiday season, we will be installing a water quality monitoring station to continue contributing to a cleaner Baltic Sea. It’s work that has an impact on the future.

In December 2021 we reached 1 000 followers on LinkedIn. Thank you to all existing followers for your interest in state-of-the-art water quality monitoring solutions. Keep following us for interesting application updates and performance demonstrations!
2022
As a company, we have progressed a lot during 2021. Yet, I am keen to see progress in 2022. We will be busy with piloting, application development and customer installations. Virtual demos and piloting will play an essential role as we expect COVID to restrict access to end-user sites in 2022 still.
I am looking forward to the Spectralligence project on advanced data analytics employing AI. Spectralligence will be accomplished as a European level collaboration with partners like Philips N.V., Eindhoven University of Technology and Maastricht University. The project strongly supports Sensmet’s goal of developing the world’s leading software for advanced analytics of the big µDOES® real-time water data.
With the 2021 numbers of Sensmet, I wish you all a happy holiday season and all the best for 2022!
