Sensmet Ltd, Finland has won the real-time water monitoring challenge of M-Start competition organised by the Brazilian Mining Hub open innovation initiative. Mining Hub is supported by leading mining companies in the world. Nearly 200 competition proposals were submitted to the M-Start programme call. The program included five different themes and Sensmet’s cutting-edge real-time water analyser was selected as the winner under the water management theme. Next, Sensmet enters proof-of-concept phase with Vale S.A. who are one of the world’s largest mining companies.
Sensmet has developed breakthrough water analyser that can provide a quantitative live overview of the mine’s water quality at sub-part-per-million sensitivity. Sensmet analyser can perform quantitative and simultaneous analysis of multiple metals and water parameters such as turbidity and total hydrocarbons every minute. The sensitivity and automated operation of the Sensmet advanced water analyser opens totally new opportunities to improve water management in several industries such as mining.
Key benefits of the Sensmet water analyser include
- live water quality data allows for improved process performance
- cost-effective solution for comprehensive and quantitative water monitoring 24/7
- reliable operation under changing process and weather conditions
Sensmet CEO Kalle Blomberg von der Geest thanks the organisers for a well organised competition. "Winning in the Mining Hub competition is fantastic. This opens a unique opportunity for Sensmet to start collaboration with a leading mining company. We see remarkable business potential for our water analyser in the mining sector and expect the first finished pilots by the end of the year.” says Blomberg von der Geest.
"We are excited about working together with Vale. With their support we can validate our analyser’s performance and robust operation in challenging mining environments.", says Sensmet CTO Toni Laurila.
“Vale wants to pave the way for future real-time water quality monitoring solutions, which operate reliably in changing conditions. We are looking forward to fruitful collaboration with Sensmet who have developed unique technology for real-time water monitoring.”, says João Vieira Dias, Environmental Manager at Vale S.A.
Sensmet, founded in 2017, has developed a new sensitive real-time water analysis technology which is based on Micro-discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy µDOES® technology. The first pilots in steel industry were started last year and the proof-of-concept phase with Vale S.A. opens new markets in mining industry.
Vale S.A. is a Brazilian multinational corporation engaged in mining and metals and is one of the largest logistics operators in Brazil.
